Yeah, there was definately a lot of hate and anger then, but the music at the time seemed to help deal with it all, which I think is why I still love it. Nothing since has really had the effect the music did at that time. i could be feeling a certain way and hear a song and say yeah, that's exactly how I'm feeling. Along with Social D, my friend and I saw and listened to alot of Suicidal Tendencies as well. The bands just seemed to be able to convey what we were going through. And now that we've made it through, to still hear some of those going strong is just unbelieveable.
I was at the SD show tonight in San Diego in the front row. My friends were on one side of me, and on the other side was a young girl and her boyfriend. We got to talking (you know, dodging crowdsurfers as they flew overhead, etc)
and she said it was her first Social D show. She asked me if this was my first too, and I told her my first Social D show was way back in 1984. She said "Oh. The Social D shows must seem crazy now, since things were so mellow back then". When she made that comment to me, I was swallowing water from a water bottle one of the security guards gave me. I almost choked on it.
BabyBlue, thanks for sharing, youngsters nowadays definately think they're more Punk than we ever were, but what is cool is that we were there at the beginning. It is so much more evolved now with a lot of wannabe's, there weren't any posers that I can recall from back in the day. Everyone that was in the scene was there for real. But it's hard for young people to ever think that their parents could have once been cool. My kids think I'm crazy when I tell them some of the stories from back in the day. I only have a couple of pictures from that era of my life, and to them it looks like I'm dressed up for Halloween! Although it is exciting that young people are just experiencing Social D for the 1st time, some of us like myself have seen them so many times over the years, that those kids have missed out on so much and we didn't.
Yeah. I politely explained that the scene was very different back then, there were no barricades, security guards, only some bouncers, and the plugs could be pulled at any minute to stop the shows. Violence was guaranteed.
Later on, Mike commented about the trouble he got into here many years ago and gave props to the old timers. He said "being punk in San Diego not only assured you fights with truckloads of people, they would fucking kill you here."
The girl then looked at me with her eyes wide, and I simply nodded my head as if to say "there you have it".

[qb]Anybody have any idea what's next for the band after this month? A break? More US dates? Overseas? I know, I'm being greedy but I need to see a few more shows cause the band is playing great and I'm on a SD high.
